Make it fit your group

A classroom word warm-up

Read the words aloud before students search. Check the meaning of costume, cauldron and scarecrow. After finding a word, ask students to say it and use it in a sentence. Finding a spelling in a grid is a recognition task; it does not replace a separate spelling check.

A party table activity

Print the easy version for a mixed-age table and offer the medium version as a choice. Provide pencils and keep the answer sheet with the host. There is no required timer: let players work alone or help each other.

Change the vocabulary

The medium version includes ghosts, witches and vampires. If those words do not suit your lesson or event, use the edit link to replace them with autumn words such as LEAVES, APPLE and HARVEST. Generate again after editing to create a new matching answer key.

Printing without surprises

Select Letter or A4 to match your paper. Print at 100% or Actual size, check one sheet, and give players page one. The second page repeats the same grid with lime highlights. Black-and-white printing is fine for the puzzle; use the answer preview on screen if the highlighting is faint on your printer.
