Mix the letters.
Keep the lesson.

Turn familiar words into a spelling activity. Add hints for context, preview the letter mix, then get the worksheet and its separate answer key.

1. Add your words

One word per line, or word | hint. You can paste two spreadsheet columns. Use 2–20 single English words, 2–20 letters each. No spaces, numbers or punctuation in words; up to 160 characters for each hint. Your complete list is kept if it needs editing.

2. Get your scramble

Long hints get extra space. Your list may fill several pages.

Give students the worksheet. Download the matching key separately for yourself; choosing pages keeps the current mix.

Student-only PDFs contain no answer-key pages. No signup, email or analytics consent needed.

Paper size and hint choices keep your current letter mix. Mix again to update both the worksheet and key.

Practice familiar words.

Start with your lesson

Use a short set learners have already met. Our four plant words show how the maker works; replace them with vocabulary from your own text or lesson.

Give the letters context

Write a clear hint after |. A letter mix can form more than one word. The key records your intended answer, and does not prove it is the only English word possible.

Check and explain

Keep the answer pages for yourself. Ask learners to explain their word using the hint or lesson context, then use the same list in flashcards or matching.

The British Council Anagrams activity (Deb Bullock,2022) describes using familiar topic words in class and peer practice. This independent tool is not endorsed by the source; we have not measured its learning effects.

Can more than one answer be correct?

Yes. Words such as STOP and POTS use the same letters. When two words in your list share all their letters, distinct printed hints are required. The tool checks only your list, not a dictionary. Even different hints may fit more than one word; review the printed sheet and accept other valid answers when they fit your lesson.

What happens to very short or repeated-letter words?

Use 2–20 letters per word with at least two different letters. A word made of only one letter type cannot be mixed into a different order. Identical word-and-hint entries are counted once; conflicting hints ask you to edit. A new random mix may repeat a previous mix, especially for short words.

Can I download the worksheet without its answer key?

Yes. Student pages only is the default. Choose Answer key only to save the key for the same mix, or Student pages + answer key for one combined PDF. Changing this choice does not shuffle your worksheet.

Can I reuse my flashcard or matching list?

Choose Make a word scramble in either tool. Words, hints, title and paper size move in this tab. Longer lists and phrases need editing here; we keep all text and explain the issue. Use Back to return to the original draft. Hiding hints does not delete them. Temporary tab storage is not a permanent saved library.

Which text can I use?

Words use English letters A–Z only. Hints and titles support English letters, numbers and common punctuation. Accents and other scripts are not supported by this PDF font yet.
