Use words from your lesson
Start with vocabulary learners have met in a text, conversation or observation. Give each word one short meaning that fits that context.
Turn your lesson pairs into a matching worksheet. The answers are mixed up; the separate key keeps the same order as your preview.
One pair per line: word | meaning or answer. You can paste two spreadsheet columns. Use 2–20 distinct pairs; English letters, numbers and common punctuation. Up to 60 characters for each word or question, 160 for each answer.
Long meanings get extra space. Your list may become several short sets, each with its own choices.
Give students the worksheet. Download the matching key separately for yourself; choosing pages keeps the current mix.
Student-only PDFs contain no answer-key pages. No signup, email or analytics consent needed.
Paper changes keep the pairs. A new mix updates both the worksheet and its key.
Show answer key changes only this preview. Choose PDF pages beside the download button to control the file. With both selected, student pages come first. Print at 100% or Actual size.

The tool checks repeated text, but it cannot judge meaning. Two different descriptions may still fit the same word. Review the worksheet and key before printing.
Ask learners to write the answer letter, then discuss why it fits. Use the same pairs in flashcards for a later activity with the answers hidden.
Word-to-definition matching is described as a classroom activity in the British Council's Aptis ESOL for Teens teacher guide (2025, page 8). This tool is independent; the source does not endorse it or establish its learning effects.
Identical pairs are counted once. Different answers for the same word, repeated answer text, or missing answers stop the output until you edit them. Matching needs at least 2 pairs. Your input is kept.
Yes. Student pages only is the default. Choose Answer key only to save the key for the same mix, or Student pages + answer key for one combined PDF. Changing this choice does not shuffle your worksheet.
In the flashcard maker, choose Make a matching worksheet. The current title, paper size and complete pairs move in the same tab. Go back to return to your original cards. Lists above 20 pairs need splitting; nothing is silently removed.
This first version uses English letters, numbers and common punctuation. Other scripts and accented letters need a different font and are not supported yet.
